THE TERIBE (NASO) COMMUNITIES
In the mountainous region of Bocas del Toro it inhabits a very small
indigenous group known as teribes or nasos. The locations of this ethnic
group are the shores of the rivers San San, Teribe and Changuinola,
where to 27 communities are located, inhabited by more 3.000 people.
The singularity of this ethnic group is that his government is headed by a Pru or King, title that is inherited by direct line. The majority of the teribes professes some form of Christian religion although traditionally they believe in Sbö, supreme God and author of all the creation. This group characterizes itself, among other things, to have a nucleus of monogamic order, of a small family in some regions and extensive family in others. Does not exist at the present time a ritual imposed by tradition and remembered for the marriage.
