ATTRACTIONS


Altough it is the center of the Bocas del Toro banana region and one of the gateways to the spectacular Archipelago, Changuinola counts, itself, with several attractions.

If you like to hike in the mountains, go into the jungle looking for the amazing flora and fauna of the rain forest, a visit to La Amistad (The Friendship) International Park is the most. The wetlands is other very important ecosystem of the region and a good sample of his fauna & flora it is possible to find at San San Pond Sack Wildlife Refuge.

To know about the culture of the indigenous ethnias in the province, visit their villages, specially a trip to the Teribe region will be regarding. At Wekso this people offer lodging, meals and tours, through their ecotourism project.

Changuinola district is crossed by important rivers that, coming down from the mountains, run through the central plans and end in the Caribbean Sea. The beaches there are important nesting sites for at least three marine turtles: leatherbacks, greens and hawkbills.

The banana plantations themselves are an interesting view for the people of the big cities where they eat the delicious fruit no imaginating the size and complexity of the many jobs that are needed to bring it to their market.

Finally, the commerce along the 17 de Abril Avenue, in Changuinola town, attracts people looking for electronics, clothes, perfumes, and a wide range of goods. Here are also the only hotels and banks of the district.

Changuinola is NOT a resort town. But any tourist would certainly find it multi-faceted and interesting, if they can look beneath its "rough exterior!".
